The Nice Classification updates every January — check your class before you file

WIPO publishes a new version of the Nice Classification each year, and item wordings move or change. A class that was right for your goods last year is usually — but not always — right this year.
India classifies trademark goods and services using the Nice Classification, the international 45-class system maintained by WIPO. The classification is revised continuously: a new version of the current edition enters into force each January, and full new editions arrive periodically.
Most changes are refinements — item wordings adjusted, new goods added, occasional transfers between classes. But for fast-moving categories (technology, wellness, food delivery, digital services) the accepted wording for what you sell can shift, and an outdated specification invites objections or, worse, protection that does not quite cover the business you actually run.
Before any new filing, check the current version of the classification for your exact goods or services rather than copying an old application's wording. The finder's dataset shows a "last verified" date on the tool page — if your filing is significant, have the final specification settled professionally against the current official text.
